Memories

Alan Hardy

From 1950 to 1954 I was a lifeboy - the junior section to the Boys Brigade.

I can remember being on the Lifeboys' float on the Coronation procession in 1953. We left the Forest Recreation Ground and went down Mansfield Road into the city centre and past the Council House. We then went along Castle Boulevard, pausing at Boot's bridge for a comfort break. Then it was along Lenton, Radford and Gregory Boulevards and back to the Forest. The thing I most remember about it was that it poured down all the way and everyone got soaked yet we still managed to keep smiling.
