Dunlop Avenue as viewed from Lenton Boulevard in 1999. In the bottom righthand corner of the photograph the head of a motorcyclist has just sneaked into view.

Moving onto Dunlop Avenue itself this shows a view of the street looking towards its junction with Johnson Road and Cycle Road. Most of these houses were erected by the local firm of W.T. Norris

In 1907 J. Chamberlain purchased 15 Dunlop Avenue from the builder W.T. Norris. The image shown is the invoice that his solicitors, Martin & Co., sent to Mr Chamberlain for handling the sale of the property.

Memories

Margaret Smith - Australia

It is interesting to note that both the houses I lived in while residing in Lenton feature in your Lenton Gallery. The first was the house on Church Street next to the old Baptist Chapel. The second is shown on this page and is the property situated at the corner of Dunlop Avenue and Lenton Boulevard. My husband and I bought the house the early 1960s from a Mr Gilbert who was a plumber and paid £2,500 for it. Our youngest child was born in the front bedroom. We emigrated to Australia when he was three years old and as he has no real memory of living there it is through the wonders of modern technology that I can instantly show him his actual birth place all those years later.
