This 1961 photograph shows the junction of Head Street and Kyte Street. The entrance to Mount Pleasant can be seen off Kyte Street. |
In this 1961 shot, the photographer, George Roberts, was standing on Head Street looking towards the junction with Willoughby Street. Across the road, on the other side of Willoughby Street, is the short stretch of roadway known as Manfull Street. At the end of Manfull street it was possible to turn left on to Lombard Street. At the bottom of Manfull street, just visible on the right, is the Manfull Street Mission Hall. All these buildings came down during the 1960s. |

Ian Carney was a Lenton resident in the 1940s, 1950s and early 1960s. So he can well recall this area of Lenton before it was all demolished. Taking the original photograph that was in black and white he has provided us with a colourised version. |
1950's photograph of Head Street from the bottom of Kyte Street. This photo shows an area that was known locally as 'Lockies'. The original house on this site was demolished around 1950. The wall around 'Lockies' was left up until much later and the area inside the wall was used as a bonfire site. |
