This is a 1944 advertisement for the Lenton School of Dancing. As you will see the proprietor was a Mr Renals who then lived at 18 Lenton Boulevard.

Our source of information about the Lenton School of Dancing is Jean Button, who used to attend their dance classes and also provided us with this photograph and the next one. She tells us that classes for tap and ballet used to be held at the Monty Hind Boys Club which was then situated on the corner of Willoughby Street and Church Street. The gentleman who used to run the school, Jean believes, used to live on Lenton Boulevard.

This, and the previous photograph, both taken c.1948, show girls from the Lenton School of Dancing when they put on their annual show for the general public. A school hall would be hired for the occasion and in this instance it looks as though this photograph was taken in the Cottesmore School Hall - but we are happy to stand corrected if anyone can be more certain about the location.
