The annual Martinmas Fair held at Lenton Priory during the Middle Ages was once one of the most important fairs in the country. Long since gone, the Dunkirk and Lenton Partnership in 2014 organised their own version of this fair in the form of a 'living history event' mounted in the churchyard of the Priory Church, Old Lenton. This took place on Saturday 15th November when costumed characters, mock tourneys and market stalls all helped recreate the past. |

The first five photographs taken by Paul Bexon, shown above, reveal something of what was going outside while his final shot inside the church finds a group of musicians playing medieval-style music. |

After attending the Martinmas Fair Scott Taylor was inspired to create a slideshow featuring images from the day while also explaining a little more about the original fair. The three images shown above are taken from Scott's slideshow. Click here to watch the whole of Scott's presentation. |

Also present at the fair was someone from the Notts Hidden History Group and they have upload on the Internet two short video recordings taken on the day. We display three sample images taken from the videos. Click here to access Part 1 of their video and click here for Part 2. |

A large number of photographic images taken at the fair can be accessed on the Dunkirk and Lenton Partnership's website. We have three sample images taken from the website. Click here to see the whole of the Forum's photographic 'album' taken on the day. |
