Wollaton Park Estate - Aerial View

This aerial photograph has been taken from a book on 'Housing Estates' written by Stanley Gale and published in 1948. Our copy of this image was passed on to us by Mike Ashworth who has put on his flickr page - click here to go through to Mike Ashworth's flickr page.

While the photograph shows that the Wollaton Park has now been completed it is very evident that a start has yet to be made on the houses that will eventually line either side of Wollaton Hall Drive. In the bottom left corner the Derby Road passes through the photograph and you can see Lenton Lodge (the Wollaton Park gatehouse) now lying detached from the park itself. Also evident in the photograph is the line of the Nottingham Canal with a line of trees growing alongside its western edge. Although the William Woodsend Memorial Homes are visible on Derby Road there is, as yet, no sign of Triumph Road. The stretch of road in the bottom right corner is a part of Radmarsh Road.
