David Smithson took this shot of the marina looking back towards the canal and Castle Boulevard in the early 1980s. The construction of the Castle Gardens development in between Alderney Street and Chippendale Street has yet to take place.

Taken by David Smithson at the same time as the previous photograph we get a view of the marina taken from Alderney Street looking across the canal.

Almost the same viewpoint as in the previous photograph but this shows the view looking over at the marina site as it looked in June 2009.

When Richard Wilson took this photographin the 1980s he was clearly more interested in the locomotive seen in the foreground. Already visible in the background is the marina housing and the Homebase DIY outlet. Yet to come is the rest of the retail park which would fill this vacant land in the foreground.

David Smithson's 1980s photograph is taken from the road bridge over the canal. In the right of the foreground is what was originally known as the Baltimore Diner and beyond it lies the Homebase DIY store.

This June 2009 photograph was also taken from the road bridge. The Baltimore Diner is still with us although it is now known as the Baltimore Exchange but the Homebase store has departed to make way for the Quays housing development. The 2009 photograph also includes the new bridge which takes pedestrians and cyclists over the entrance to the marina itself; this was erected in the first half of 2009.

David Smithson's 1980s photograph was taken from the road bridge over the canal looking back towards Castle Boulevard. On the opposite side of the boulevard part of the MFI outlet is also visible.

Clearly attracted by the effect of the sunset on the Castle Marina in October 2019 Becky Saunois took this shot.

Taken in September 1987 these five photographs show work underway on the J. Sainsburys retail unit. In the first of the five photographs a small section of the Homebase unit can also be seen. What looks like extensive woodland in the second photograph is actually the stand of poplars between the Nottingham Canal and Castle Boulevard. Photographs by Paul Bexon.

Once Homebase DIY centre had relocated to The Meadows their premises at Castle Marina were demolished and the site subsequently purchased by a developer who has since built 'The Quays' housing development. Completed in 2006 this photograph shows part of the development backing on to the canal towpath.
