The portion of land at the north-west corner of Lenton Boulevard and Derby Road was developed in the early 1900s. The roads were called Elmsthorpe Avenue, Dunlop Avenue and Johnson Road. Given there is no apparent connection between the three names, it is unclear why these particular names were selected. Anyway this view taken in 2008 shows the junction of Elmsthorpe Avenue with Lenton Boulevard.
